The Pink Ladies 3,
Mugs 2
In their home opener, A Bunch of Mugs and A
Pitcher (0-1) dropped a tough 3 to 2 decision to The Pink Ladies (1-0). The contest was the Mug’s premier
showing in KLOB's Canton league.
Perhaps the opening stanza foreshadowed the game’s shocking end result;
the Ladies scored two for the Pink while the Mugs could only manage one in the stink. The Mugs defense was
tight at the start, allowing the Ladies first two kickers to score before shaking off the rust, loosening up, and settling
in to their usual stalwart selves. Pitcher Mike “Who’s Your Daddy” Randolph’s arm never tired,
striking out several Ladies throughout to do his part on the defensive end. Meanwhile, the Mug offense displayed some
promising signs of life. Newly acquired Jimmy Lien and Katie Mills turned in perfect two-for-two nights at the plate,
instantly showing why both were considered such hot commodities this past off-season. Following their example, the strategic
Aaron Ricks led off the bottom of the third with a single and, with help from consecutive singles by free agent pickup Robin
Lien and veteran Brittany Stewart, promptly traversed the bases for the tying score. Unfortunately, the Mugs were unable
to push any more runs in the rest of the way and eventually fell victim to a manufactured Ladies’ run in the top of
the sixth.
Be sure to tune in next week when the Mugs look to regain their winning form while playing host to Tulips
on Deez Balls. Game time is set for 7:20 PM at Utz Field 1.
