Mugs 1, Kick the CEG 1
On a cold, Thursday night at Latrobe
Field, A Bunch of Mugs and A Pitcher (0-0-1) opened the Spring 2006 season by facing off against former league champ Kick
the CEG (1-0-1). The match proved to be a classic, hard fought pitching duel reminiscent of last season's
play-off battle between the two foes. This time, however, the Mugs and CEGs chugged along to a 1 to 1 tie.
Unable to find the base paths for the
first five innings, the Mugs offense had a rough time shaking off the rust from a long off-season. Rookie
Eric Mack provided perhaps the only highlight, taking a ball in the face for a suddenly aroused crowd. Fortunately
for Eric, he's used to balls flying at his face, so it wasn't tough to swallow. While the Mug's offense
struggled, their defense shined. Pitcher Mike Randolph threw a gem, holding the CEG's to a single run in
top of the fifth while keeping the Mugs in the game. In the bottom of the sixth, the Mugs offense awoke.
Speedster Brian Pietryka legged out a single and strategists Lindsay Lauenstein and Morgan Carter promptly followed
to load the bases with one out. Sacrificial Dave Packer then stepped to the plate and provided a deep
fly to score Pietryka and knot the score.
Stay tuned for next week when the Mugs
look to trash Littering and… Game time is set for 8:10 PM on Latrobe's Field #2.
