Mugs  6,  Littering and...  0

A Bunch of Mugs and A Pitcher (1-0-1) trashed Littering and… (0-1-1), easily disposing of the home team 6-0 Thursday night at Latrobe Field.  The blanking goes down as the fourth shutout in franchise history and marks the second fewest number of bases the Mugs have ever surrendered.

The Mugs cleaned up in all aspects of the contest.  Early on, though, it did not appear that would be the case.  After jumping out to an early 1-0 lead, the Mugs defense found itself in a two out, bases loaded jam in the bottom of the first.  Fortunately, the next batter sloppily grounded into a fielder’s choice and allowed the Mugs to escape the inning unscathed.  The Mug’s defensive intensity never faltered as they refused to allow another runner into scoring position for the remainder of the game.  Newcomer Mike Martin and first baseman Suketu Sonecha led the charge, cleaning up the junk the Litter kicked their way.  Meanwhile, the Mug offense chipped away, picking up single runs in each of the first three innings.  However, by the bottom of the sixth, the Mugs found themselves grasping a slim 3-0 advantage.  Refusing to settle for such a marginal lead, the Mugs promptly scattered three singles to load the bases, sending the fleet footed Morgan Carter to the plate with two outs.   The young MC did not disappoint, rapping a single down the first base line, ironically ricocheting off a piece of the Litter’s debris and allowing two Mug runners to bust their move home and put the game out of reach.

Next week, the Mugs find Weapons of Grass Destruction on their schedule.  Game time is set for 8:30 pm on Latrobe’s Field 3.
