A Bunch of Mugs and A Pitcher (1-1) slipped
by Beer Run (0-2) Thursday night at Utz Field. The 5 to 3 win is the first Canton League victory in franchise history.
Scoring
a run in each of the first five innings, the Mugs used a steady flow offense to kick the Beers. The reliable Robin Lien
and Ashley Pietryka led the charge, each turning in perfect nights at the plate. Hustler Matt Frese contributed as well,
leading off the third with a single and promptly moving to third on a strategic sacrifice by Leanne Lauenstein before eventually
setting the Mugs up with a 3 to 1 lead. The Beers chugged along, though, responding with a two run homer in the bottom
half of the inning to knot the score. But slugger Jason Budden’s two out RBI in the fourth gave the Mugs a sobering
advantage, crushing the Beers hopes of pulling off the upset.
Make sure to be there next Thursday when the Mugs find themselves focusing on Please Be 18. Game time is set
for 7:20 PM on Utz Field 1.
