Mugs 4, C.U.N.ex.T.hursday

A Bunch of Mugs & A Pitcher
(1-1) notched their first win of the season, tapping C.U.N.ex.T.hursday (1-1) with a narrow 4-3 defeat. The win keeps the Mug’s all time record spotless when dealing with the Cooters.
Coming off a
disappointing defensive performance the week before, the home standing Mugs turned up the heat and shut out the Cooters for
the first four innings of the contest. Speedster
Jimmy Lien and hustler Matt Frese paced the offense; both working their ways around the bases to spot the Mugs an early three
run advantage. But the Cooters were loose and continued to hang around. After shaving off a run in the fifth, they tied the game in the sixth when a runner
cunningly snuck across the plate after a play had seemingly ended. A
fishy call, the ump clearly missed the rule on the rubber being in the box. Fortunately,
though, the Mugs persevered. After holding the Cooters scoreless in the top of
the seventh, the unflappable Dave Packer navigated his way to third with two outs before slugger Aaron Ricks stepped up and
launched a high fly to left. Obviously not used to handling such big balls, the
fielder muffed it, allowing Packer to trot home with the win.
Be there next week when the Mugs look to give a
sobering shot to Wasted Already. Game time is 6:30 PM on Canton’s
Utz Field 1.
