Mugs 4, Ball Busters VIII 1
Naptown Barflies 3, Mugs 2
On a seasonably warm Thursday
night at Latrobe field, A Bunch of Mugs and A Pitcher (2-1-1) split a rare regular season doubleheader, taking the opener 4
to 1 and dropping a slim 3 to 2 decision in the nightcap
To kick off the night, the
Mugs faced off against the Ball Busters. In the previous two meetings between
the foes, the Mugs used their stellar defense to hold the Balls to a single run. This
time around was no different. With star’s Brian Pietryka and Jason Budden
scoring in the top of the first, the Mugs found themselves with an early 3-0 lead. The
Balls had to have known they were licked after a start like that, but set their sights on a comeback. However, the aggressive base running of an alert Brittany Stewart showed the Mugs meant business and in
the end, the Balls were left to scratch their heads.
In the second game, the Mugs
were not so fortunate. Paying a visit to the Naptown Barflies, the Mugs undefeated
season was laid to rest. The Mugs started strong with leadoff Aaron Ricks scoring
one of two runs in the top of the first. Unfortunately, the Mugs offense fell
asleep and was unable to score the rest of the way. However, the Mug defense
nearly made the two runs hold up. With bases loaded and no outs in the bottom
of the second, hurler Mike Randolph worked his mojo to pitch his way out of a serious jam.
Second baseman Morgan Carter pitched in as well, snaring a line drive for a key out midway through the game. Eventually, though, the Mugs lights out defense was not enough and the Barflies managed to earn the win.
Next week, the Mugs are slated
to play The Zephyr Competition Team. Game time is 8:10
PM on Latrobe’s Field 2.
