Mugs 3, Weapons of Grass Destruction 2
On cool, brisk
Thursday night, A Bunch of Mugs and A Pitcher (2-0-1) successfully defused *Weapons of Grass Destruction (2-1) in a rematch
of last season’s 10 inning second round play-off match-up. In avenging
the heartbreaking loss, the Mugs report they are much more adept in handling Weapons than Cervixes.
Seeking the element of surprise, the visiting Mugs jumped on the board in the
top of the first inning. Precisionist Lindsay Lauenstein singled and was immediately
followed by tactical specialist Morgan Carter. Carter inspected the field, then
stepped up and delivered a two-run homer to provide the Mugs an early 2-0 advantage.
After surrendering a single run in the bottom half of the inning, the Mug defense stiffened and kept the Weapons in
check, preventing them from launching a potentially lethal attack. Sniper Dave
Packer led the charge, zeroing in throws and not letting the Weapons sneak out the back door.
But the game was still tight and Mug evidence showed an insurance run may be needed.
After placing a runner on first with two outs in the top of the fourth, opportunists Sabrina Truesdell and Aaron Ricks
kicked key base hits in succession to stretch the Mug’s lead to 3-1. In
the end, the insurance paid off as the Weapon’s offense was only able to push one more run across before they met their
demise.
The Mugs will attempt to
continue their undefeated season next week when they take on Ball Busters VI. Game
time is set for 8:30pm
on Latrobe’s Field 3.
