A Bunch of Mugs and a Pitcher 5, Kick the Ceg 2
A Bunch of Mugs and a Pitcher (3-0) kept their undefeated season intact
by downing Kick the Ceg (0-3) in an intense battle on Latrobe Field Thursday night. The word has now spread throughout
the league that the Mugs are definitely a team to be reckoned with. Several scouts were rumored to be scattered throughout
the packed crowd reportedly taking in the breathtaking sight of yet another complete team effort.
The Mugs started things off slow, surrendering two runs in the bottom of
the first and causing a sense of worry on the visitor's bench. However, in true Mug fashion, the defense stepped up
and the offense began steadily chipping away, scoring one run in each of the next five innings. Sure handed Greg Berdzik
and steriodless Brian Pemberton anchored the defensive effort, making several key catches, helping to shut the door on any
hopes the Ceg's may have had of adding onto their score. Helping his own cause, pitcher Mike Randolph scored two runs,
no sweat, on RBI singles by Aaron Ricks and Lanika Hawkins.
In the end, not everything turned out peaches and cream, however.
The cash strapped Mugs off-season spending frenzy finally caught up to them as they were forced to ship the lucrative contract
of Rachel Kordela off to the Major Kickball League of Tennessee. Her clubhouse presence and base running abilities will
surely be missed. The Mugs, in hopes of pressing on, have called up one of their top prospects, Melissa DeMino, to fill
the Kordela vacancy.
The Mugs hope to keep their streak alive next week when they go head to
head with the Boozehounds at Riverside Park. Game time is set for 7:30.
