Mugs 7, C.U.N.ex.T.hursday
6
In a battle of undefeated teams, A Bunch of Mugs & A Pitcher (4-0) snatched
a 7-6 victory over C.U.N.ex.T.hursday (3-1) last night at Utz Field. The decision continues the streak of the Mugs never
having gone down to the Cooters. Forced to deal with a messy box, pitcher Mike Randolph was having a difficult
time with control and the Cooters made things hairy with an early 3-1 lead. But with the surehanded fielding support
of D’Anna Fluharty and Robin Lien to perk him up, Randolph stiffened his play and began rolling balls that ragged the
Cooter kickers and stopped the bleeding. However, the Mugs offense was struggling, limping along in desperate need of
a lift. Rising to the occasion, slugger Brent Sauer penetrated the Cooter defense, launching a two run bomb to spark a four
run rally and give the Mugs the lead in the bottom of the fifth. In the sixth, speedsters Eric Mack and Brian Pietryka
slid two more in on the Cooters, teaming up to score with some base running trickery on the moist grass. Not giving
it away that easily, the Cooters shaved two runs off the lead in the seventh before the Mugs sealed the deal with hero Jess
Wilson’s two out catch to end the game. Having had their way with the Cooters, the Mugs will look to get
more action next week with Tulips on Deez Balls. Game time is set for 7:20 PM at Utz Field 1.
