A Bunch of Mugs and a Pitcher 1, Kickbrawlers

Don't look now, but A Bunch of Mugs and a Pitcher (4-0) are shocking the kickball world.
The Mugs turned in another defensive gem Thursday night, defeating the upset minded Kickbrawlers (1-3) in a closely contested
1-0 game. The win notches the Mugs their first shutout of the season and matches the organizations win total for
the past two seasons combined.
Inspired by the return of veteran Kiersten Barnaba from an early season stint on
the DL, the Mugs posted the lone run of the contest in the bottom of the second inning. Aaron Ricks got things started
with a walk-off single and was followed with a cleverly placed ball kicked by player/coach Shelly Ward. With a
runner now in scoring position, clutch kicker Greg Fine booted an RBI single, providing the Mugs with all the scoring they would
need. However, the one-run lead did not go unthreatened as the Kickbrawlers managed to reach base several times throughout
the game. Each time, though, the Mugs stellar defense rose to the occasion and successfully put a halt to their
offensive hopes. Ricks' highlighted the defensive stand, at one point showing off his range by stretching out and snagging
a line drive down the line. Careful not to steal the spotlight, 'Ace' Ricks later teamed up with third baseman, Dave
'Gary' Packer, to make a dynamic duo catch, truly demonstrating the close bond the team has formed.
Next week,
the Mugs will travel to Latrobe's Field 3 to take on O'Doyle Rules (3-1) at 8:30 PM. It is sure to be a true test
for the Mugs as they attempt to keep their undefeated season alive against their archrival who they have never played.
