A Bunch of Mugs and A Pitcher (4-1) showed Your Mom (3-2) who their daddy was last
night, defeating the visitors, 2-1. The victory ensures the Mugs another winning
season, placing them in serious contention for a coveted playoff berth.
Coming into the contest, Your Mom was hot and feeling loose, riding high on a three
game winning streak. Unfortunately for them, they had not yet experienced a team
as mature as the Mugs. The Mugs began hitting on Your Mom immediately, coupling
a Brian Pietryka single and a Morgan Carter sacrifice to take an early 1-0 lead. Not
to be out performed, Your Mom rallied for a run of their own to even the score in the top of the second. With the game now knotted, prior thoughts of Your Mom being easy were promptly suppressed and the Mugs
offense went back to work. With two on and two outs in the bottom of the second,
camper Jen Karcher showed off her newly honed skills, kicking a clutch single to load the bases. Stalwart Mike Randolph then followed with an RBI single, allowing runner Jason Budden to reach home on
Your Mom. Turning to their defense, the Mugs relied on stellar pitching and fielding
to shut down the opposition the rest of the way. Sure-handed Cathy Strong did
her part, turning one of three Mug double plays on her own to stop Your Mom from getting any with the bases loaded.
The Mugs will be back in action again next Thursday at 7:30
PM on Latrobe's Field #2. They will attempt to knock off undefeated Cobra Kai, last season's kickball champion, and
secure a spot in the kickball playoffs.
