Team Betty Ford 6, Mugs 4
On a cool, damp night at Latrobe Field,
Team Betty Ford (5-1) knocked down A Bunch of Mugs and A Pticher (3-2) in a thrilling 6 to 4 decision. The loss
snaps the Mugs three game winning streak but still keeps them in the play-off hunt.
After trading runs in the first, strapping Dave Packer
singled to lead off the second for the Mugs. He immediately advanced to third
on a well placed sacrifice by strategic kicker Dawn Geary and then sprinted home on the next play when Greg’s “Oso”
Fine RBI fly to center spotted the Mugs their first lead of the contest. After
a scoreless third, the Ford’s revved their engines in the top of the fourth, knotting the score at two. But the Mugs once again struck back, using a Brian Pietryka two out triple to bring home speedsters Corie
Stover and Matt Frese. Down, the Ford’s were visibly shaken and their wheels
began to wobble. Unfortunately for the Mugs, the Ford’s would not fall
off the wagon so easily. Instead, they began concentrating on the twelve steps
they would need between each base to pull through the tough time they were having. The
Mug defense set out to make that task difficult, recording a couple highlight reel plays the next couple innings; centerfielder
Jason Budden preserved the Mug lead by nailing a potential game tying runner at the plate in the fifth and sure-handed Sabrina
Truesdell earned a pat on the back with a diving catch in the sixth. However,
the defensive heroics proved vain as the Ford’s began kicking the ball cold turkey, enabling themselves to make a full
recovery and emerge victorious.
The Mugs hope to return to their winning ways again next
week in a rematch against Kobra Kai. Game time is set for 8:30 PM on Latrobe’s
Field 3.
