Mugs  13,  The Dirty Marlins  5

For the second consecutive season, A Bunch of Mugs and A Pitcher (5-0-1) dominated The Dirty Marlins (0-6), hanging the fish out to dry with a 13-5 victory.  The win keeps the Mugs undefeated season intact and all but ensures them of their fourth straight play-off appearance.

Notching the win over the Marlins proved an easy catch for the Mugs.  After a scoreless first inning, slugger Greg Fine led off the second with a base kick, igniting a streak of eight consecutive kickers reaching safely for the Mugs.  Of those eight, seven managed to navigate their way home and reel in a big early Mug lead.  With the sizeable advantage, the Mugs turned the game over to their bullpen, relying on a handful of relievers to put the contest on ice.  On the rare occasion the Marlins made things fishy, key catches by sure handed Suketu Sonecha and slick fielding Meghan Keating held them at bay.  By the bottom of the fifth, the Mugs were up a commanding 11-1.  Realizing a mercy shortened decision was not worthy of a trophy, “catch-and-release” was implemented and the Mug’s defense intentionally relaxed.  The Marlins took the bait and posted four runs on the board, allowing a complete game to be played.

The Mugs return to action again next week when they face off against perennial powerhouse O’Doyle Rules.  Game time is set for 7:30pm on Latrobe’s Field 3.
