A Bunch of Mugs and A Pitcher (6-2) swept a doubleheader Thursday night, closing out yet another successful regular season in grand fashion at Riverside Park.  The first game of the twin bill saw the Mugs clean up the Dirty Marlins (0-8), posting thirteen runs on an opponent for the second consecutive game.  The nightcap was much of the same as the Mugs wiped up a familiar foe, Oops I Crapped My Pants (1-7), shutting them out in an 11-0 blowout.

In the opener, the Mugs netted a handful of scores in the first inning, then proceeded to lure in the win by playing their usual tough defense, making the Marlins’ offense flop like a fish out water.  The Marlins only threat came midway through the game when they cast a deep fly to the left field warning track.  But fleet footed Brian Pietryka was trolling the outfield and was able to track it down with an over the shoulder trophy catch.  Third baseman Dave Packer got in the act too, playing his line well and baiting several Marlins into grounding out.  Meanwhile, the Mugs offense continued to pull in runs left and right, scoring almost every inning.  Slugger Jason Budden capped it off, kicking a bases loaded triple to end the game, hooking the Marlins with another loss and providing righty Aaron Ricks with his first career save.

In the second game, the Mugs let one loose again, ripping the Crappers apart in all phases of the game.  Pitcher Mike Randolph led the defensive surge, snagging a line drive and constipating the Crappers kickers all night.  On the rare occasion a Crapper found their way on base, the rest of the Mug’s defense was there to back Randolph up.  Gunner Matt Frese provided a highlight reel play all his own, throwing out a streaking runner at second and leaving nothing but the Crappers skid marks on base.  In fact, the Mugs made the Crappers offense stink so bad, they only managed to squeeze one runner safely to second the entire game!  Unfortunately for the Crappers, the poor movement caused them to achieve better results producing runs off the field then on.  The end result notched the Mugs their second shutout and third successive mercy ruled contest of the season.

The Mugs will be back in action next week as they continue on with the next step in their quest for the coveted KLOB Championship.  Game time and opponent are yet to be determined, stay tuned for details forthcoming!
