Clinching first place in the Canton League, A Bunch of Mugs (6-1-0) handed
C.U.N.ex.T.hursday (4-1-2) their first defeat of the season. With the victory, the Mugs tapped the Cooters with yet
another loss in the all-time series between the two clubs.
The Mugs found the crevice in the Cooter’s defense
early on, slipping in three runs to take a commanding lead in the top of the first. Rookie Christy Zingarelli was largely
responsible, legging out a two run bleeder before racing home to pad the lead. The Cooters would try to come from behind,
a position they clearly were not used to, but the Mug’s defense would prove too stiff. Second baseman Leanne Lauenstein
shafted a Cooter on one occasion while speedster Jimmy Lien’s heads up play helped strap on the Cooter loss.
The
Mugs will be back in action next week as the #1 seed in the Canton League Playoffs. They will likely face the winner
of a first round game between the #8 and #9 seed. The game time is expected to be announced Sunday night.
