On a muggy night in Canton, A Bunch of Mugs & A Pitcher (5-2)
schooled 6th Grade Revenge (4-3), fittingly defeating the hosts 3 to 2. The win clinches the Mugs a key first round
bye in the Canton League Playoffs slated to begin next week.
The Mugs wasted little time establishing a lead in this one, using
the strength of precisionist Katie Mills bases loaded single to jump out to an early two run lead in the first.
In turn, the Revenge sought retribution, but the quick hands of Robin Lien, Jess Wilson, and Amy Lauenstein made the grade
and helped maintain the Mug lead throughout the game. The Revenge were vindicated by putting forth a strong
defensive effort themselves, however, slugger Brian Packer stepped to the plate with a vengeance in the fourth. Packer
promptly lined a two out offering perfectly down the line, easily plating a charging Matt Frese with what would
prove to be the game winning run as the Revengers would ultimately be unable to settle the score.
With the win, the Mugs wrapped up another successful regular season and
secured a third or fourth seed in the playoffs. They will play at 9 PM next week against an opponent yet to be determined.
