Mugs 10, Rat Pack 2
On cold, dark night at Latrobe
Field, A Bunch of Mugs and A Pitcher (7-0-1) upstaged the Rat Pack (2-5-1), closing out the regular season with a 10 to 2
victory. The win notches the Mugs their first undefeated mark in club history
and clinches one of the top two seeds in the upcoming KLOB Varsity Play-offs.
After holding the visiting
Mugs scoreless, the Rat Pack went on the attack early, loading the bases with only a single out in the bottom of the first. But the vaunted Mug defense rose to the occasion, shutting down the threat without
leaving a scar. The Mug offense then took command, scoring at least once in five
of the game’s last six innings. The one-two punch of leadoff-man Brian
Pietryka and his trusty sidekick, Morgan Carter, kept scorekeeper Eric Mack’s pen warm ‘all night long’
as the duo reached base an unprecedented four times each. The agile Corie Stover
had a memorable night as well, dipping and dodging her way on base in all three of her plate appearances. Defensively, the Mugs were relentless. Surehanded Meghan Keating
and Greg Berdzik made key catches to help snuff out any meaningful chances the Pack may have had.
In one week, the Mugs will
face their next challenger in the first round of the play-offs. Game time is
set for 7:30pm
on Latrobe’s Field 2 against an opponent yet to be determined. If the Mugs
pass this test, a second round game will immediately follow.
