#1 Mugs 12, #8 Ball
Busters 2 (6 Innings)
For the second time this season, A Bunch of Mugs & A Pitcher (7-1)
flattened the Ball Busters (2-7), defeating the eigth seed 12 to 2 in the second round of the Canton League Playoffs.
The game marked the seventh time the Mugs have faced the Balls; all seven have resulted in Mug victories. Staying
true to form, the Mugs showed the Balls what it means to be well rounded; blowing up the scoreboard on offense and deflating
the opposition with a suffocating defense. Converted outfielder Aaron Ricks played tall, making some key catches to
keep the Balls from ever getting on a roll. Veterans Robin Lien and Matt Frese led the offensive surge, each contributing
key kicks to rack up some significant runs. Frese joined up with stars Mike Randolph, Brian Pietryka, Jimmy Lien, and
Eric Mack, each posting perfect nights while having a ball at the plate. Slugger Brent Sauer capped the scoring with
a two run homer in the bottom of the sixth, popping the Balls chances of mounting any sort of comeback.
Be sure to be there next week when the Mugs take their game on the road
for the City Finals in Federal Hill. Game time is set for 7:20 PM on Field 2 of Riverside Park. The Mugs will
be face off against the winner of last night’s game between the former JV champion Kickin’ Chickens and the ‘roid
raging Team Betty Ford.
