A Bunch of Mugs and a Pitcher 4, Boozehounds

A Bunch of Mugs and a Pitcher (7-1) capped an outstanding regular season, doubling up the Boozehounds
(1-7) Thursday night at Riverside Park. The victory punctuates an astonishing turn around for the Mugs who have won
six more games than they had all of last season.
Finding themselves in the unfamiliar confines of Riverside Park,
the Mugs showcased a performance symbolic of their season long effort. Righty Mike Randolph, rolling on zero games
rest, tossed a perfect first three innings, holding the Hounds at bay from the start. The Mugs offense, led by the two-hit
performance of the "experienced" Kiersten Barnaba, broke a scoreless deadlock in the top of the third when opportunist
Jen Karcher circled the bases to provide her team with a lead it would not relinquish. The pesky Hounds did not go down
easy, however. Twice the Mugs found themselves in bases loaded, no-out jams, but were able to come through in the
clutch, surrendering only a single run under the intense circumstance.
Perhaps the biggest defensive play of the game
belonged to Brian 'Long-Range' Pemberton. In the bottom of the third inning, a Hound slugger stepped to the plate,
eyed the short porch in left field, and attempted to deposit a Randolph offering over the wall. Fortunately, the
ball fell short and Pemberton was able to pull in the fly on an incredible, acrobatic, over the shoulder, diving catch
at the warning track.
The victory clinches the Mugs sole possession of 2nd place seed in the Ropewalk Bracket.
They now await the announcement of their first round play-off matchup to be contested next Thursday.
