Mugs 12, 6th Grade
Revenge 3
In the second round of the Canton League Playoffs, A Bunch of Mugs &
A Pitcher (6-2) exacted a 12 to 3 thumping on 6th Grade Revenge (5-4). By winning the rematch of their
regular season finale, the Mugs advance to the City Finals for the third consecutive season.
Bitter for losing the week before, the Revenge sought retribution and came
out firing, shooting three runners across the plate in the top of the first. The Mugs attempted an immediate retaliation,
but were only able to push speedster Jimmy Lien across with a single run. Resentful for giving up such a big first
inning, the Mug defense instantly gelled, leaning heavily on strong armed third basemen Dave Packer to hold the
Revenge at bay. On the flip side, the Mug offense vindicated themselves in the bottom of the third. Down by one
with two outs and the bases loaded, slugger Katie Mills launched a drive to right that plated the elusive Morgan
Carter and Packer to give the Mugs a lead they would not surrender. From there, several Mugs jumped in on the act; stalwart
Mike Randolph creamed a legit triple, later scoring on a perfectly executed sac fly by the veteran Suketu Sonecha.
The Mugs continue their quest for the KLOB Cup in the City Finals slated
for Thursday. Their quarterfinal match will begin at 6:30 PM on Canton's Utz Field against an opponent to be
announced soon... stay tuned!
