#2 Mugs 9, #7 The Gin Bucket 5 #6 Belligerent Drunken Buffoons
12, #2 Mugs 8
A Bunch of Mugs (8-2-0) dumped The Gin Bucket (5-2-3) before getting hammered
by the Belligerent Drunken Buffoons (7-1-2) in the semis of the KLOB City Finals Thursday night at Latrobe Field. This
season, both Mug losses came at the hands of the Buffoons. In a light drizzle during the opener, the Mugs relied
on the steady pitching and ninja like reflexes of Brian and Ashley Pietryka to help prevent the opposition from kicking the
Bucket to an early lead. Meanwhile, the Mug offense poured it on, rallying to plate six runs in the bottom of fourth.
Speedster Jimmy Lien dropped another one on the Buckets two innings later, capping the Mug scoring with a solo homer that
effectively put a lid on any Bucket's hopes of pulling off the upset. In the semis, the competition intensified
and so did the rain. When it rains, it pours; the Mugs and Buffoons turned what is usually a defensive battle between
the two teams into a surprising display of offensive fireworks. Pietryka and Mr. December Brent Sauer each slugged home
runs, helping the Mugs score eight runs in the game. But the eight wasn't enough, and the Buffoons knocked the Mugs
out of the City Finals for the third time in the past four seasons.
