On the freezing cold pitch of Riverside Park, Team Betty Ford (8-1) treated
A Bunch of Mugs & A Pitcher (6-3) to a 7 to 3 loss in the first round of the KLOB City Finals. The loss officially
ends the Mug's Fall 2006 season.
Leadoff Brian Pietryka wasted little time cracking open the scoring, navigating his
way home in the top of the first to spot the Mugs an early one run lead. But Betty Ford quickly intervened, putting
on a mini kicking clinic and responding with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the stanza. Using the aggressive
base running of Jason Budden and some well placed singles by Jimmy Lien and Leanne Lauenstein, the Mugs made a valiant effort
to recover. But in the end the Mugs fell short of their fix, allowing Betty Ford to take another step in their
playoff run.
Though the Mugs emerged from the contest with a loss, they came out as
true winners in the end as Betty Ford had to stick around for at least one more cold one.
